Here is what we have so far (after about a week). The kids planted these and are responsible for watering them, so they took a bit to get going. They were sort of neglected right after being planted but are getting more attention now that we have some progress. We also planted the root ends of some green onions. They are growing too. Since celery and green onions are some of the things that we have a hard time using before they go bad, I think it will be awesome to be able to harvest them as needed. And this is gardening that not even I can mess up. We'll definitely be using this in Taiwan.
| Green onions on left, celery on right. They are both starting to peek through. |
I also tried starting some other celery in water. I think this will be the way I start it next time because it has grown more in 3 days than the other one has in 6. (Of course lack of watering may have something to do with the one in the dirt growing slower.) I need to transplant this start into some dirt now and see how it does.
| It was just a flat celery end on Monday or Tuesday night. Now it's grown to this. |

It's been a fun way to get a little green into our apartment life. Especially since I managed to kill the orchid I got for my birthday. It'll be interesting to see what happens with these.
